About Me

The who ran away with the whaa…!? That’s right! I have decided to a blog about the “culinary adventures” of a twenty- something newlywed who enjoys running and eating but doesn’t know that much about either.
I have been married for a year now and I thought it was time to share all of my failures and achievements in some of my new favorite hobbies!
I must admit that I do have some experience with running. I participated in 4 years of cross country and one season of track during high school. At the time I wasn’t terribly interested in running. I really enjoyed being part of a team and the running junk just happened to be a part of it.
I also met my wonderful husband (D) during our sophomore year of high school. We both decided (separately) to participate in track (only once) the same season. That could be why running holds such a special place in my heart. :)
Now that I’m in my twenties I have come to the realization that exercise and eating healthy are important! I have returned to the only exercise in which I have any knowledge (although slight!)* Over the past year I have participated in a couple 5ks/10ks and earlier this year I took on my first Half Marathon. Racing is the best part about running! It’s great to people watch and, to me, it doesn’t even feel like exercise! D will also agree to participate in 5ks because of the food, alcohol, and t-shirt that goes along with it. :)
Now on to the cooking! Growing up I was pretty spoiled! I was a VERY picky eater! I wouldn’t try anything new and would be satisfied with chicken nuggets or a cheese burger for dinner every night. I had never even tried Mexican food until I graduated from college and started my career, but now I can’t eat enough!
Being the youngest child and the only one at home for most of my life, I was catered to. My mom is an excellent cook and made dinner for us at least 5 nights a week. I loved having dinner with my family and still do! This is a tradition I carry on at home and hope to continue to when I have a family of my own.
I was never very helpful in the kitchen and I’m pretty sure my mom liked it that way. (I’m really messy! She would die if she saw what my kitchen looks like when I’m done cooking!!) So here I am 23 years old and married with no idea how to cook, clean or do laundry. Lucky for me my husband loves being my taste tester and will eat anything!
So here goes nothing…

*This is a blatant lie! I forgot to mention that I am a Physical Therapist Assistant, so I do know a thing or two about exercise! I guess what I should have said was running is the only sport that I really participated in at a higher level than junior high! I enjoy cardio a lot but weight lifting not as much. I do, however, make sure to do some strengthening for my arms, core and legs because it is very important to stay healthy during training!!
